Science and Research in the Stelvio National Park

Flora and fauna, research and nature conservation

Though we marvel at the wonders of Nature, it becomes more meaningful as we discover more about the environment. This applies not only to schoolchildren and young learners, but also to adults.

Interactive educational programmes and multimedia expositions at the five Visitor Centres in the Stelvio National Park are open to members of the public. There are also organized field trips with mountain guides, scientists and experts in their area of competence ready to share their comprehensive knowledge of the flora and fauna in this high Alpine region. In the Stelvio National Park, research and nature conservation go hand in hand.
The Ortler-Cevedale front

The fighting during the First World War took place also in the Stelvio National Park. Along the Ortler-Cevedale front, extending at over 3000 meters above the sea level, Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers fought in extreme temperatures and conditions. The association “Ortler Sammelverein Erster Weltkrieg“ researches the story and the events of the First World War in the Ortler-Cavedale area. https://www.ortlerfront.org/ (only available in German)
