For an environmentally-protected region such as the Stelvio National Park in the Ortler Alps, conservation of the natural and cultural landscape is essential. Alpine and mountain farming makes a valuable contribution to its preservation, creating high-grade produce.

The "Tourism and Agricultural Development in the Stelvio National Park" Initiative seeks to promote such contributions, and the Sustainability Award was established for this very purpose. Producers involved in outstanding ecological and socially-sustainable activities are recognised and receive awards.

The "Sustainable Producer" Award is presented by IDM South Tyrol, in conjunction with the Stelvio National Park Authority.
