Winter Hiking Tour via the Archaik trail

Winter hike on the Archaikweg trail from Prad to Stilfs and back.

General description

This hike takes in sections of the historic Alpine crossing route, heads past the prehistoric settlement of “Gaschlin” and leads all the way to the rustic mountain village of Stilfs. Up here in the mountains, where they like to say that even the chickens wear crampons, visitors are certain to find the surroundings utterly charming. Be sure to explore the museum “Der Einstieg”, which tells the story of how the village came to be and explores the history of mining in former times.

Route description

Start out from Prad towards Agums/Agumes until you reach the upper Suldenbachbrücke bridge. This marks the entrance to trail no. 11, which leads you through the hamlet of Gargitz and up to Patzleidhof farm. From here, you embark on a gentle ascent up trails no. 11 and 34 to Stilfs (1,310 m). The hike boasts expansive views over the Ortler range, with information boards denoting places of historical interest along the way. On the return leg, try heading past the “Weiberbödele” archaeological site until you reach Stilfserbrücke bridge. Then follow the Agumes Bergwaal canal trail (no. 33) back to Patzleidhof farm and the original starting point. Hikers can also return to Prad from Stilfs via public transport.
