In the South Tyrolean areas of the Stelvio National Park, are five separate Visitor Centres. These are the: naturatrafoi, aquaprad, culturamartell, avimundus in Schlanders/Silandro and the lahnersäge Visitor Centre in the Ultental/Val d'Ultimo Valley. The Stelvio National Park main administrative office is situated in Glurns/Glorenza.
Each of the Visitor Centres focuses on a different theme of the Stelvio National Park: flora and fauna, history and geology, water, forests as well as its human inhabitants. These didactical exhibition centres and museums are popular destinations in the Stelvio National Park, attracting scores of visitors on a daily basis.
Why were these Visitor Centres established in the first place? In the region around the Ortler Cevedale Massif including the Vinschgau/Val Venosta, the Martelltal/Val Martello side-valleys close to Latsch/Laces and the Ultental valley in the east, the Stelvio National Park in South Tyrol extends from the foothills at 650 m to the high glaciers above the tree line at 3,900 m. With such a large and varied natural environment and set of climatic conditions, it was decided to set up five Visitor Centres in the Stelvio National Park, each focusing on one of the principal themes of the region. The idea was to help visitors understand and learn more about this abundant natural diversity, its history, its challenges and the vital role it plays in the bigger scheme of things. In addition, you will receive information about the protected area and the hiking trails there.
